Khichdi is a lentil and rice dish and traditionally very runny in consistency. However at home we have it made like normal rice. Here is how I make it.

Ingredients: 1/4 cup split green moong dal
1/2 cup rice
1 and 1/2 cup water
3 cloves
1 tbsp ghee
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Method
Wash your moong dal and rice 2 to 3 times until the water is no longer cloudy and leave to soak in clean water for 30 minutes.
Drain the rice and moong dal and add into a cooking pot with the water, cloves, ghee, turmeric powder and salt.
Bring this to a boil. When it begins to boil allow this to simmer on a medium to low heat heat with the lid on for round 15 to 20 minutes. I usually leave the lid on with the gas turned off for a further 5 minutes.
Khichdi pairs perfect with Gujarati kadhi.
